Real Estate in Cloudcroft, NM

Cloudcroft is a village in Otero County, in the Sacramento Mountains within Lincoln National Forest. At about 8,676 feet, it is known for mild summers and a forested setting. The name is often explained as meaning a pasture for the clouds.

About Cloudcroft

Tourism is the main part of the local economy. The Lodge, built as a more upscale alternative to The Pavilion, burned in 1909 and was rebuilt at its present site in 1911, and Conrad Hilton managed it in the 1930s. The Mexican Canyon Trestle, a remnant of the old rail line, stands near the village.

Festivals at Zenith Park include May Fair on Memorial Day weekend, the July Jamboree, and Oktoberfest.

Mountain living and second homes

People look at Cloudcroft both for full-time homes and for cabins or second homes. If you are considering a cabin, there are questions worth asking: road access in winter, water and utility service, whether a property can be used as a short-term rental, and how it is maintained when you are away. We can help you check each one.

How to get started

The first step is a conversation. Tell us what you are hoping to do and when, and we will suggest a plan. For buyers, that usually means talking through your budget and priorities, then viewing homes that fit. For sellers, it means a walk-through of the property and a discussion of pricing and timing. There is no pressure, and no obligation to work with us afterward.
