Real Estate in Truth or Consequences, NM

Truth or Consequences, often called T or C, is the county seat of Sierra County. It sits on the Rio Grande near Elephant Butte Reservoir, served by Interstate 25.

A town with a story

The town was incorporated in 1916 as Hot Springs. In March 1950, residents voted to rename it after the NBC radio quiz show Truth or Consequences, whose host, Ralph Edwards, had promised to broadcast from the first town to adopt the name.

Geothermal hot springs fed about 40 spas before World War II, and the historic hot springs district is still part of the town’s identity. Fiesta, held the first weekend of May, began as a celebration of the renaming and includes a parade and a dance in Ralph Edwards Park.

Arts and character

T or C has an artsy, quirky character. It has several art galleries and a periodic Art Hop on Main Street and in the historic hot springs district, and it has attracted film productions.
