Alamogordo is the county seat of Otero County. It sits in the Tularosa Basin, in the northern part of the Chihuahuan Desert, on the western flank of the Sacramento Mountains, at about 4,330 feet.

About Alamogordo

White Sands National Park is roughly 15 miles southwest of the city along U.S. Route 70, and Holloman Air Force Base is about 3 miles west of the city limits. The Sacramento Mountains border the city on the east, and Lincoln National Forest has its headquarters in Alamogordo, with the forest beginning about 10 miles northeast of town.

The New Mexico Museum of Space History, which houses the International Space Hall of Fame, is here, and so is the Alameda Park Zoo, considered the oldest zoo in the southwestern U.S.

Events

The Cottonwood Arts and Crafts Festival is held Labor Day weekend in Alameda Park. The White Sands Balloon Invitational launches hot air balloons from the Riner-Steinhoff Soccerplex and from White Sands National Park. Other events include the Otero County Fair with a rodeo, the Lady of the Mountain Run in December, and an Earth Day Fair at the zoo.

Close to the mountains

Alamogordo’s position at the foot of the Sacramento Mountains puts the high country close by, including nearby mountain communities like High Rolls and Cloudcroft, which we also serve.

Buying or selling in Alamogordo

We serve buyers and sellers in Alamogordo, and we are glad to talk through your plans whether you are just starting to look or are ready to move. Our approach is simple: listen first, answer your questions honestly, and build a plan around your goals.

  • Which neighborhood or area fits your plans
  • Nearby amenities and travel routes
  • Your goals, timeline, and budget
  • The kinds of properties available in the area

If you are selling in Alamogordo, we will help you prepare the property, set a price you can feel confident about, and present it to buyers from the surrounding region. We keep you informed through showings, offers, and negotiations so you always know where things stand.

How to get started

The first step is a conversation. Tell us what you are hoping to do and when, and we will suggest a plan. For buyers, that usually means talking through your budget and priorities, then viewing homes that fit. For sellers, it means a walk-through of the property and a discussion of pricing and timing. There is no pressure, and no obligation to work with us afterward.
